A Gorgeous Wave Sculpture

I really like this wave sculpture.

It looks as if it made of glass.

It appears to capture one wave just before it crashes

An Unusual Zikr

Allah tells us in the Quran:
“Then remember Me, I will remember you.”(2:152)
"Who have believed and whose hearts have rest in the remembrance of Allah. Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest (13:28)
Our Prophet (saw) told us that Allah has said:
“I am with My servant when he remembers Me and his lips move making mention of Me.” (Bukhari) Our Prophet (saw) also said: “A man does nothing more calculated to rescue him from Allah’s punishment than making mention of Allah.” (Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah)

No protection except from Allah, the All Guardian

The meaning of this verse of the Holy Qur'an

Chapter (53) sūrat l-najm (The Star)

Sahih International: Of it, [from those] besides Allah , there is no remover.

Pickthall: None beside Allah can disclose it.

Yusuf Ali: No (soul) but Allah can lay it bare.

Shakir: There shall be none besides Allah to remove it.

Muhammad Sarwar: No one besides God can rescue a soul from hardship.

Mohsin Khan: None besides Allah can avert it, (or advance it, or delay it).

Arberry: apart from God none can disclose it.

Tranquility in the Heart

Hazrat Maulana Yunus Patel (R.A) inspiring lecture on 'sukoon e dil' which means peace and tranquility in the heart.

At the darkest points in my life, I used to listen to this lecture everyday; sometimes twice a day.

And by so  doing, I was able to find some 'sukoon' in my life; and even comfort in physical as well as mental pain.

I was able to recognize that everything is from my Allah. And if he is aware of the pain that I am experiencing then He expects me to beg Him to provide respite for this or the strength to bear it.

A Fancy Treasure Box

This is my treasure chest.
O.K Well......................... not exactly.

Last year during Ramadhan, my son bought a Rimax toolbox for me. It is made of plastic and has three drawers with sections and a carrying handle

Since I wear a hijab, I usually use lots of pins and fancy clips and many times I lose them. My son is accustomed finding pins and clips on the floor or on the tables. And he would usually present them to me with much flourish.

So what I did was make pincushions to fit four of the sections and put all my pins and clips in the three drawers.

I even had space for my foundation, lipstick and a few keys

This is a picture of my treasure box standing on a table in my bedroom. Now it is easy to coordinate my clips with everything I wear. And it is also easy to replace. My son still finds a few pins on the floor but much less than previously.

So now I would hear about housekeeping.

Everything has a place and everything must be in its place.

An unusual pencil case

A rolled up pencil case

This is a very simple pencil case. I used the headtie from a dress and sewed a large rectangle. Then I folded it  and sewed channels to hold the pencils.

I also put in a piece of black and gold lace to ensure that the contents would not fall out.

Then I  filled it and rolled it up and tied with a ribbon.

Simple and fantastic

A Shawl for my Grandmother

My grandmother Habbiban Baksh-Aziz turned 92 years on Thursday 7th April 2016. I gave her this crochet shawl I made at her birthday function on Sunday 10th April 2016.

I finished it on Sunday morning and was only able to dash off two pictures before I had to go to the function.

I took this photo with it spread on the floor because it is very large.
It was made using shades of cream and brown acrylic wool and a 5.5 crochet hook.

I used the Elise shawl pattern and actually started this more than a year ago. I like this pattern very much because of the flowers formed as the pattern progresses.

Most likely, I shall do another in thread and use it as a hijab

Fabric instead of Paper

A Fabric Envelope

The front of the envelope

The back of the envelope

This was a small quilted project. The mint green anglais fabric is from a dress and the bright plaid is from a lungi made for a young man. I quilted it with a piece of an old blanket in the middle and wavy lines all over.  You can see some of the wavy lines on the plaid in the picture above. I didn't have suitable bias binding for this project and I actually used satin ribbon to finish it.

I thought it was a bit floppy but my aunt loved it.
